Gerard does much of his exercise specialist training at Kathy Caiello's FitStop. He paid his own way through medical school working in commercial and corporate wellness center settings. The outcome is more than 20 years of comprehensive experience in all wellness center operations and services. From exercise specialist to directorship, his clients spanned from jumping toddlers to the senior elite (his grandest client being 105 years young!). He has held positions and supported wellness programs at many large corporations, including Merrill Lynch, Trump International Tower, Cadwallader, Wickersham and Taft Law Firm, Blackstone Group, News Corporation, Hearst Corporation, The Plaza Hotel, CitiGroup, New York Mercantile Exchange and even the now infamous Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers.
Along the way he became known by many unofficial titles, such as the “Original Holistic Trainer,” the “Smiling Warrior” and his personal favorite, the “Trainer to the Untrainable.” Gerard is successful because of his ability to assess and tap into one’s movement capabilities and progressively expand that to increase overall human performance -- what he calls “training for life.” And knowing the inherent challenges of any sustained physical endeavor, he consistently serves as a fun loving and engaging motivator.
Gerard holds advanced certification as a Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and is a member of the American Amateur Boxing Association. Gerard Rios is the proprietor and chief practitioner of Harvest Health Services, a multidisciplinary alternative medicine practice. Foremost, Gerard is a dedicated traditional trained practitioner of Chinese Medicine. To him, every patient encounter is an opportunity to enhance the rich medical heritage passed on through the ages and sages of Chinese Medicine. Gerard earned his Master of Science degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Touro College of the Health Sciences in New York City. His clinical training was completed at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, treating within the orthopedic/neurological rehabilitation, oncology and labor/delivery departments.
He holds National Board certifications in both Acupuncture and Chinese Botanical Medicine. Gerard carries New York State licensure and is a Diplomate through the National Commission for Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. He is a certified teacher of Tai Qi and Qi Gong through the Institute Of Integral Tai Qi and Qi Gong. In his daily life, Gerard applies the wisdom of Chinese Philosophy. My husband and I have been training with Jason for almost 7 years. Because he keeps us motivated the workouts continue to be challenging and we always feel better after our training sessions. Jason has become an important part of our lives and we look forward to training with him.
Each training session with Jason is both a challenge and a confirmation of your aspirations. Jason is thoughtful, caring, mindful and supportive of each person's goals. Jason makes working out a life success.
I have been working with Jason for more than ten years. Commitment to the well-being of his clients, thoughtfulness, and professionalism are the best ways I can describe my experience with Jason Schryver
Jason is knowledgeable, professional and personable. He sets realistic, but challenging goals, he encourages his clients to achieve them, retain flexibility and to work on endurance.
My back has always given me problems ever since I was a teenager. When strength training was recommended by my doctor I knew I needed someone who would understand how to strengthen my back without hurting it. I met Jason years ago and, when I heard he was at Fit Stop, I signed up. Jason keeps my sessions active and challenging, giving me the results I needed. We are now working on some life style changes that are already paying off. It sure beats going to the doctor!
Those of us who wish they could exercise more often, but have trouble actually doing it on a regular basis, would profit from the advice and professionalism of trainer Jason Schryver. Jason has great experience with both young athletes and older people. He is enthusiastic, friendly and dependable. I am fit and strong, balanced and positive about life as a result of my twice weekly sessions with Jason.
Jason is a very knowledgeable and professional trainer. He works within the parameters of the goals I have set for myself, yet also encourages me to move beyond my comfort zone. Training with Jason has been a great experience for both me and my husband.
